Hailing from the south-eastern English county of Surrey, McLaren F1 Team boasts a long and distinguished spell at the forefront of auto racing; but this is not actually confined to Formula One. What many of us don’t realize is that the team dominated the Canadian-American Challenge Cup between 1967 and 1971. However, McLaren is not best known for its F1 team without good reason. They’re the second most successful Formula One team, and many an F1 legend has called McLaren their home, from Senna and Prost to Alonso and Button. A team with such a stellar past is today, quite tragically, fighting for its place as the best of the rest. Quite ironic, that Leeds United, a football club based in the neighbourly rival of Surrey county should share such a parallel history and fall from grace. Only time will tell if McLaren will ever be able to achieve the immense heights they once reached and I’m sure every racing fan secretly yearns for their revival. If such a thing does indeed happen, it would undoubtedly be nothing less than a spectacular return of the prodigal son.
